Graz, May 5, 2022 – In the presence of the members of the “Friends of Mariahilf” board of trustees and numerous public figures, Governor Hermann Schützenhöfer opened the Minoriten event center with its historic Minoriten hall yesterday afternoon (May 4th) after a two-year renovation phase. “We have a diverse cultural landscape in Styria and in Graz we are proud of the beautiful architecture. A true architectural jewel is the Minorite monastery with the Minorite Hall and the beautiful cloister in the inner courtyard. As a politician, we bear responsibility for the cultural heritage of our country. It is our job to preserve this diversity for our children and grandchildren as well,” emphasized LH Schützenhöfer during the opening ceremony.

A renovation of the Minorite Hall and the cloister was urgently needed. Specifically, the entrance was moved to the southern end, the building services were modernized and the cloister was converted into a meeting place. The new cultural center was barrier-free and designed with a spacious entrance and café area on the ground floor. Both inner courtyards are now car-free, so that outdoor events can also take place. In addition, the courtyards were opened in the direction of Marschallgasse, creating a pedestrian passage between Mariahilferplatz and Lendplatz. The core of the renovations was the Minorite Hall, which now shines with restored frescoes and oil paintings. In the future, a ventilation system laid in the floor will ensure a good indoor climate. Furthermore, the acoustics have been improved and the backstage area has also been expanded. This brought the unique sound experience of the concert hall to a new level.

The state of Styria contributed 1.5 million to the construction costs.
