Minor tourists raped, four arrests in Matera

It was supposed to be an evening of pure fun, spent in a villa in Marconia di Pisticci, in the province of Matera, to celebrate a birthday. For two British underage tourists, however, the night between the night between 7 and 8 September would soon become a nightmare ended with group sexual violence. The two girls found the strength to report the rape and were accompanied to the hospital in Matera, where their health conditions were checked and the doctors confirmed the violence. Now, the turning point. The mobile squad of Matera and the police station of Pisticci, at dawn this morning, arrested four people while others were reported.

The complaint

The investigations to identify the perpetrators, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor of Matera, led to reconstruct the incident: the tourists, in Pisticci to find some Lucanian relatives of one of the girls, were first beaten and then forced into sexual relations. Hence the arrests because the brutality, gravity and savagery of the violence committed in a subtle way could have been repeated against other women.

The reactions

In Marconia, a populous hamlet of Pisticci, the initial shock was great and the mayor Viviana Verri had also written an appeal on Facebook to her community asking them not to remain silent. This is the moment when the spirit of our community must emerge strongly, a healthy community that cannot and will never have to get used to such episodes – added the first citizen – and for this reason those who can help the investigators cannot afford to remain silent. to put an end to this affair.
