Threat
A minor was arrested in the investigation into a “not credible” terrorist threat against secondary schools. The Charleroi public prosecutor’s office confirms this.
“The secondary schools are again the target of threats.” Just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening, several French-language media spread alarming reports about a possible terrorist attack targeting all Belgian secondary schools. Two schools in particular in Walloon Brabant, including the Royal Athenaeum in Geldenaken, were said to have been selected as targets, according to threatening emails.
The National Crisis Center confirmed that it had been informed of that potential threat. The threat analysis body Ocad announced on Thursday morning that it was a threatening email that several schools received. According to Ocad, this was “not credible based on the available information”.
The Charleroi public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the origins of the “not credible” threat. A minor has now been arrested in this context, the public prosecutor’s office confirms. More communication would follow later today.
