The Minnesota Zoo welcomed an adorable new resident this week: a 10-month-old river otter named Cedar.
Cedar is settling into her new habitat and has already been spotted exploring and playing. As Minnesota’s largest aquatic carnivore, river otters are known for their remarkable hunting skills, primarily targeting fish.
“These playful animals often spend hours in the wild sliding down muddy or snow-packed stream banks,” said a spokesperson for the minnesota Zoo. “Because they are so good at getting food, they have less need too compete with each other and more time to play.”
Cedar will have access to both her public and behind-the-scenes habitats as she acclimates to her new surroundings.
