Kelly Pannek and Abby Boreen scored twice in a span of 2:22 early in the second period to help Minnseota beat New York 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in the only LPHF game of the day.
This gain allowed Minnesota to stop a series of three consecutive losses. The team’s last victory dates back to February 17, against Ottawa. This victory also allows Minnesota to move within two points of Montreal at the top of the standings, even if the Montrealers have a game in hand.
Quickly in the first period, Minnesota caused a turnover in the opposing zone and Pannek completed a nice passing play to open the scoring.
Then on a power play moments later, Boreen hit a puck in the slot that quietly slid into the back of the net to double the lead.
The rest of the game was the story of goalie Maddie Rooney, who blocked 29 shots to sign her third victory of the season, and her second by shutout.
New York will be Montreal’s next opponent next Wednesday.
