After the quarantine ended, it is now unclear how contact tracing will continue. In Vienna it will continue in a modified form for the time being. No new employees will be taken on for this. According to the ministry, no continuation is planned for the time being.

It was only at the beginning of July that the city said it wanted to expand contact tracing. Around 120 new employees were sought – more on this in the city is increasing contact tracing. The city reacted to the increasing number of infections.
In what form and whether contact tracing will be continued at all is now open. “It has actually been said that contact tracing should remain in place. I just can’t answer how that works now,” said City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) to “Vienna Today”.
“We’ll be able to tell next week”
According to the current status, the intention is to retain the existing 180 contact tracing employees. At the moment, instead of contact tracing, they are being used for informational talks with people who have tested positive.
The further procedure in terms of contact tracing depends on the specifications of the Minister of Health, according to Hacker. Not least because the federal government contributed to the costs of tracing the infection chains. “We will then be able to say it next week, we also have the decrees that are yet to come. (…) And the legal framework then also determines what is done,” says Hacker.
Ministry declines
But the Ministry of Health refuses. “There are currently no plans to continue contact tracing,” said a spokesman for Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) to ORF Vienna. The new draft regulation for the end of the quarantine only mentions infected people and no longer contacts.
