Such figures were mentioned in the meeting of President Volodymyr Zelensky with the economic blocs of the President’s Office and the Cabinet of Ministers, where the sources of financing for spending during the war were discussed.
The meeting discussed the state of Ukraine’s economy in the second month of the war, as well as its development forecasts for the near future.
Ukraine’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter Russia has decreased by 16% compared to the same period last year, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine estimates.
“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has completely changed our economy. Our GDP is projected to decline by 16% in the first quarter and by as much as 40% in the full year,” said Denis Kudin, deputy economy minister.
According to him, the sectors that have suffered the most are those where teleworking is not possible – air transport, maritime transport, service sectors where work is done directly with consumers.
At the same time, he noted that in the last ten days the economy as a whole has begun to recover, business is returning to work in safe regions, and farmers have started sowing.
