The Surinamese Ministry of Health is not pleased with an article about oxygen concentrators, which appeared in the Times of Suriname today. According to the ministry, the newspaper provides incorrect information with this unsubstantiated claim.
The article indicated that a third of the oxygen concentrators, which were used in the fourth COVID wave in patients with oxygen need, would be missing. The ministry distances itself from this claim and regrets that the said newspaper is launching this irresponsible publication without applying the adversarial principle.
The oxygen concentrators are neatly stored and under control. In the past period, the managers of the oxygen concentrators have developed a ‘track and trace’ app to monitor management and distribution. Society can count on the oxygen concentrators being available if they have to be used for patients in need of oxygen.
“With this reporting, there is unnecessary panic in society, while parts of society are already feeling fear due to the explosive rise in covid-19 cases in the fifth wave. The Ministry of Health therefore calls on society to use the official reporting of the ministry as a reference and not to comment on sensational news,” the ministry said.
