Ministry of Commerce (Ministry of Trade) says rarity cooking oil make people panic buy or panic buyingso that residents ‘pile up’ at home.
Inspector General of the Ministry of Trade Didid Noordiatmoko ensured that currently cooking oil production was close to domestic demand. Thus, the scarcity of cooking oil should be resolved no later than the end of March 2022.
He said the government is gradually resolving the issue of production to distribution of cooking oil so that it can be obtained easily, at an affordable price for the community.
However, a new problem arose which was the impact of rising prices and the scarcity of goods, namely panic buying.
Because it was difficult to get cooking oil at an affordable price, people bought more than they needed when they got the opportunity.
In fact, research results say the need for cooking oil per person is only 0.8-1 liter per month. This means that now many households stock cooking oil. “But this is only indicated,” he added during a working visit to Palembang as quoted from Antara, Tuesday (8/3).
Take for example, cooking oil producers in South Sumatra, currently producing close to the needs of this region. Even if there is a difference, it is estimated that it is only 10 percent.
Furthermore, Didid said while waiting for the stability between demand and availability of cooking oil, the government will continue to hold market operations in every district/city in South Sumatra starting next week.
In this market operation, the public can buy cooking oil at a price according to the Highest Retail Price (HET).
The HET for premium packaged cooking oil is Rp. 14,000 per liter, simple packaged cooking oil is Rp. 13,500 per liter, and bulk oil is Rp. 11,500 per liter, which has been set since February 1, 2022.
