Ministry of the Interior, for Digitization and Municipalities Baden-Württemberg

Minister Strobl thanked all volunteers and their families for their tireless efforts at today’s helpers’ reception at the Hockenheimring.

“Today the focus is on you, dear helpers”, with these words the deputy prime minister and interior minister Thomas Strobl welcomed the civil protection volunteers and their families. “When it comes down to it, our civil protection officers are ready to help without any ifs or buts. We know what we have in our volunteer helpers – because without volunteering you can’t make a state. Baden-Württemberg can be proud of that,” emphasized Interior Minister Thomas Strobl.

Great achievement in the last two years

The corona pandemic, the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley and the admission of people who have fled Ukraine have placed great demands on civil protection in recent months. The functioning of the structures in civil protection is mainly due to a highly motivated and strong voluntary work.

A very big thank you goes to the families of the many helpers. “The commitment of the many volunteers also demands a lot from their families. This is not just the time they are out and about for the safety of the people of the country. Civil protection operations are neither plannable nor predictable. When something happens, when people are in need, everything else has to take a back seat. Supporting this flexibility is anything but a matter of course. In addition, operations are often difficult: the helpers themselves are exposed to dangers and their family members are worried at home – all the more so that this operation is anything but a matter of course for the people in the country,” said Interior Minister Thomas Strobl.

Lots to do for the volunteers

A varied program awaited the volunteers. In addition to the attractions of the Hockenheimring, all the organizations involved once again ensured a successful event. This year’s “helpers’ reception” took place again for the first time after a two-year break due to corona.
