The rains will remain throughout the week. As of Saturday, DANA is moving away towards the Atlantic. In these episodes, Civil Protection and Emergencies recommends taking the following precautions:

Rains and storms

  • If you are driving, slow down, take extreme caution and do not stop in areas where large amounts of water may flow.
  • If you have to travel, try to travel preferably on main roads and highways.
  • In the event of sudden storms and heavy rain, the location where vehicles are parked must be taken into account. The rapid rise in water levels can damage vehicles parked in flood-prone areas and, in addition, drag them away, causing damage to other people’s property and even hindering the natural flow of the current.
  • If it starts to rain heavily, think that there is a risk of flooding. Do not cross the flooded sections with your vehicle or on foot, because you do not know what may be under the water and locate the highest points in the area. Don’t try to save your car in the middle of a flood.
  • If you are in the countryside, you must stay away from rivers, torrents and low areas of slopes and hills, avoiding crossing flooded fords. Likewise, you should go to the highest points in the area.
  • If the storm surprises you in the countryside, avoid running and stay in high places, such as the tops of hills, ridges or divides. Do not take shelter under trees and stay away from wire fences and metal objects.

Strong winds and coastal winds

  • It is advisable to secure doors, windows and all objects that may fall onto public roads and stay away from cornices, trees, walls or buildings under construction or cranes that may fall off. Also, it is advisable to refrain from climbing the scaffolding without adequate protective measures.
  • If you are driving, take extreme caution, especially when exiting tunnels, overtaking and crossing heavy vehicles on two-way roads. Pay attention to the possible presence of obstacles on the road.
  • If you are in maritime areas, try to stay away from the beach and other low places that may be affected by the high tides and waves that are usually generated by the intensity of strong winds.
  • It is recommended to avoid parking vehicles in areas that may be affected by waves.
  • In these situations, the sea acquires extraordinary conditions and can drag you if you are close to the sea.
  • Do not put your life at risk in front of the spectacular images of strong waves.
