Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Ministry of Religion (Ministry of Religion) stated Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman alias Gus Miftah failed to understand the prohibition on using speakers when reciting the Al-Quran in the month of Ramadan.
This statement from the Ministry of Religion was in response to Gus Miftah’s lecture in Bangsri, Sukodono, Sidoarjo, East Java, a few days ago. At that time, Gus Miftah compared the use of speakers to dangdutan, which he said was not prohibited even until 1 am.
“Gus Miftah looked ashy and failed to understand the circular regarding guidelines for using loudspeakers in mosques and prayer rooms. Because he was astounded and didn’t understand, what he said was also haphazard and inaccurate,” said Ministry of Religion spokesperson Anna Hasbie in her statement, Monday (11 /3).
Anna explained that on February 18 2022, the Ministry of Religion had issued Circular Letter Number SE. 05 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for Using Loudspeakers in Mosques and Prayer Rooms.
The circular, he said, aims to create peace, order and shared comfort in broadcasting among diverse communities, including religions, beliefs, backgrounds and so on.
In the circular, it regulates the use of internal loudspeakers and external loudspeakers. One of the points of the circular regulates the use of loudspeakers in the month of Ramadan, both in the implementation of Tarawih Salat, Ramadan lectures/studies, and recitation of the Qur’an using internal loudspeakers.
“This circular does not prohibit the use of loudspeakers. Please Tadarrus Al-Qur’an use loudspeakers for broadcasting. For mutual comfort, the loudspeakers used are sufficient to use internal speakers,” said Anna.
“This is also not a new circular, it has been around since 1978 in the form of the Instruction of the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance Number Kep/D/101/1978. It also regulates that during Ramadan, day and night, reading the Koran using loudspeakers inside,” he continued.
Anna also mentioned that the handout was not intended to limit the message of Ramadan. According to him, the activities of tadarrus, tarawih, and qiyamul-lail during Ramadan are highly recommended.
However, Anna continued, only the use of loudspeakers is regulated, precisely so that the Ramadan atmosphere becomes more serene.
“If the sound is too loud, especially when mosques are close to each other, the sound will actually collide with each other and become less serene. If it is regulated, God willing, it will be more serene, easier to listen to, and if it is a lecture or study it will also be easier to understand,” he said.
Furthermore, Anna said that as a lecturer, Gus Miftah should first understand the meaning of the circular.
“As a lecturer, so that Gus Miftah is not arrogant and provocative, it would be better if he understood the circular first. If you don’t understand it, you can ask to get a proper explanation. Moreover, comparing it with dangdutan, that is clearly inappropriate and misguided,” he said.
