Ministry of National Assets Inspects Rayen Lafken Campsite – Orders Free Access to Lake Budi

Staff from the Ministry of National Assets carried out an inspection this Tuesday at the Rayen Lafken campsite, in the Saavedra commune, La Araucanía Region, after the controversy generated by a viral video showing the owner of the private enclosure denying access to the Lake Budi to two visitors.

This, despite the fact that, by law, in Chile all people have the right to freely access beaches, lakes or rivers, because these are considered national assets for public use.

At the site, the inspectors confirmed that there is no free access to the lake in the sector, so the Minister of National Assets, Marcela Sandoval, reported that it was ordered to establish free access to Lake Budi in the area of the aforementioned campsite.

On that occasion, the press asked the owner of the campsite if she regretted her actions, which she emphatically denied: “What am I going to regret, an action had a reaction, what I did was take the phone away, because I knew that they were going to edit the video, because everything is not said as it was,” said the owner of the venue.

After the inspectors notified Minister Sandoval about the irregularities in access to the lake, the head of the branch stated that the officials “verified that there was no public access to the place and that fixing must be carried out according to the law. As National Assets, we are preparing a legal technical report that includes the elements of the inspection,” she highlighted.

This will be sent to the presidential delegation, to also determine the possible imposition of a fine for the access ban.
