Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Denies Knowledge of President Yoon Seok-yeol and First Lady Kim Kun-hee’s Land

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said that during the feasibility study of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway project, it was not aware that the land of the wife of President Yoon Seok-yeol and the wife of First Lady Kim Kun-hee was located near the end of the line.

In a briefing held yesterday (10th) at the Sejong Government Complex, Second Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Baek Won-guk asked, “Have you considered whether Mrs. Kim’s land is near Gangsang-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, the end of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway alternative route?” Who would have known it existed?”

The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs also denied allegations that “Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong found out about this on the 29th of last month, and that he knew in advance that Mrs. Kim’s family had land in the Gangsang-myeon area.”

Previously, in the opposition, suspicions were raised that ‘in the parliamentary audit last year, Minister Won knew of the existence of Mrs. Kim’s family land in the Kang Sang-myeon area and intervened in the route change’.

The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs explained, “Last year’s national inspection question pointed out whether the transformation of the shape of various lands in Yangpyeong was illegal, and (Minister Won) replied ‘I will check it’, and there was no separate review as it was not related to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.” I did.

He added, “There is no reason for the minister to receive such a report in the middle of the strategic environmental impact assessment to review various routes and find the optimal route.”

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport also said that the existing route is not only inefficient, but also crosses the Han River twice, which is the source of water in the metropolitan area, and can harm the habitat of migratory birds.
