Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs Prepares Amendment to Labor Code for Transparent Employee Salaries

There are very few taboo topics in the Czech Republic. We are a fairly open company that has no problem talking about anything. However, there are exceptions. One of them is how much you earn. Just think about it. Who did you tell your salary? You may have lied about it even in front of those closest to you.

Salaries are tricky

It is questionable why this is so, but it is a prevalent phenomenon. Salaries are rarely discussed publicly. On the contrary, a large number of companies will already make it clear to you in the employment contract that under no circumstances should you let your mouth wander in this regard. The company understandably knows that this could lead to unpleasant problems.

But someone thought that it should be different. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is preparing an amendment to the Labor Code, and one of the biggest changes is supposed to be the transparent remuneration of employees in a certain position.

For example, if you work as a marketing specialist in a corporation, you can ask to be told what the average salary is for that position. It is possible that dozens of people hold the same position, so you will only get an averaged number, which you can then build on in some way. In addition, it is possible to request the evaluation of men and women for the position separately.

Differences in work exist

But there are also small companies where only two or three people work at one position. If one of them asks for an employer to reveal the average salary for a given position, they will basically simply find out how much a colleague earns.

At the same time, it must be said that rarely are people paid the same even in the same positions. Apparently, the state would like to change that. If you learn that you are paid less than others, the employer must also tell you why this is so. If he does it insufficiently, you will have the opportunity to demand a settlement.

Employers understandably do not like something like this, as they basically lose the opportunity to reward how important the given person is to the company, or to take into account various nuances. At the same time, few employees will objectively admit that they do, for example, less than a colleague, and the suffocation in the company will be cut.
