The case was referred to the competent court, which found Matar bin Abdullah bin Gwizi Al-Qathami guilty of the murder. As a result, the court sentenced him to death as a ta’zir punishment, in accordance with Sharia law. The execution took place on Tuesday, 2/12/1444 AH, corresponding to June 20, 2023 AD, in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region.
The Ministry of the Interior emphasized that this implementation of the death penalty reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to establishing security, achieving justice, and upholding God’s rulings for those who commit such heinous crimes. The government also issued a stern warning to anyone who dares to transgress the innocent or spill blood, stating that they will face the full force of Sharia punishment.
The Ministry’s statement concludes with a reminder of the verse from the Quran, stating, “The recompense of those who wage war against God and His Messenger and strive to spread corruption in the land is only that they be killed or crucified or their hands cut off and expel them from the strife, or they will be exiled from the land; that is their disgrace in this world, and theirs is a grievous chastisement in the Hereafter.”
The execution of Matar bin Abdullah bin Gwizi Al-Qathami serves as a reminder of the seriousness with which Saudi Arabia treats crimes of this nature and its commitment to maintaining law and order within the country.
