Ministry of Health’s Vaccination Campaign for Polio, Rubella, and Measles Extends until August 31

The Ministry of Health assured that the vaccination campaign against polio, rubella and measles will last until August 31.

The official explained that the coverage of the three vaccines reached 95 out of 100 children under 12 years old. That is, 95% of the target group that was made up of around 3.4 million people in that age range.

However, the Ministry of Health announced that the campaign It will run until August 31. of 2023 to improve that figure.

“Vaccines will be available in health centers for those who have not been vaccinated,” said Ruales.

With this initiative, the Ministry of Health aims to reduce possible new cases of these three diseases.

“In Ecuador we have not had cases of polio since 1990 and neither rubella and measles in recent years, “clarified the official.

However, he pointed out that if the protection coverages are reduced, new cases may appear.

Ruales recalled that between 20213 and 2020 there was a drop in the number of children who were vaccinated, reaching only 56% of those who had required the doses.

With the aim of preventing this problem from repeating itself, Ruales assured that the Government has the necessary supply to cover the demand for vaccines until mid-2026.

These doses include 17 vaccines of the basic scheme for children and two for adults.
