Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport: ‘The perfect corona app is not there yet’

The cabinet will decide on Tuesday how the corona apps will continue. The Ministry of Health announced this in a statement. Seven apps were publicly tested this weekend by dozens of independent experts during a so-called ‘appathon’. The apps should warn the user if they have been around someone who appears to be infected with the corona virus.

“The perfect app is not there yet,” said a ministry spokesman. The goal was also not to designate a winning app, but to give seven parties the opportunity to present and improve their proposal, the statement said. The developers were able to improve their apps over the weekend.

“The app must ultimately meet very strict conditions, for example in the field of privacy and data security,” explains the spokesperson. “We cannot compromise on that.”

Experts critical

Today and tomorrow, the experts who participated in the tests will advise the cabinet. On the basis of this, the government will make a decision on the follow-up on Tuesday. For example, the national lawyer has tested the proposals for privacy, and consultancy organization KPMG has investigated the quality of the various source codes and security.

The experts who watched the ‘appathon’ earlier today expressed strong criticism of the apps that passed by to the NOS.
