West Kalimantan Health Office – The government has anticipated the widespread spread of the Omicron variant and is preparing steps to deal with it, such as improving health facilities and infrastructure according to the character of the Omicron variant, and also by providing telemedicine services (health service applications).
On the other hand, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, said that the public must also know the characteristics of the Omikron variant in order to take precautions.
Omicron symptoms are not as severe as the Delta variant or the previous variant, but for the elderly, and people who have not been vaccinated and have comorbidities, there is still the potential for severe illness that can lead to death.
The Omicron variant, which is commonly encountered, triggers relatively mild symptoms such as the common cold, cough, fever, and sore throat with a fast transmission rate.
The Ministry of Health in this case provides tips if you experience Omicron symptoms, including:
- When Experiencing Symptoms Perform PCR/Swab-Antigen Test (If the test result is positive do not worry)
- If you have moderate, severe, and critical symptoms, go to the hospital immediately
- If there are no symptoms or mild symptoms, just self-isolate at home or centralized isolation
- If you are >45 years old and have comorbidities, contact the health facility, the examining doctor will determine whether you need to be hospitalized or can be referred to quarantine/central isolation.
