Ministry of Health Responds to Indonesia’s Covid-19 Status A1 High Risk

Recently, information circulated on social media and chain messages on the Whatsapp conversation application regarding the status of Covid-19 in Indonesia which is in the A1 category high risk (high risk) from the World Health Organization (WHO).

In the message, Indonesia is stated to be in the same category as countries such as India, Pakistan, Brazil, and the Philippines.

In response to this news, the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) stated that the information was a hoax.

In a statement from the Communications and Public Service Bureau of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, which was released in site official on Saturday (26/6) evening, said that WHO has never made a classification for a country.

“We have verified the information to WHO and received information that WHO has never classified countries with the A1 predicate and other codes,” said Siti Nadia Tarmizi, Spokesperson for COVID-19 Vaccination at the Indonesian Ministry of Health.

“The situation of each country is reported in the WHO’s weekly and publicly accessible situational reports,” he continued.

Nadia added that in general, since March 11, 2020, the WHO announced a pandemic condition as a statement that the whole world was categorized as high risk (high risk) the spread of Covid-19.

“Regarding the rules regarding travel tires for passengers from certain countries, the Health Quarantine or the Port Health Office or the government of the destination country is usually practiced,” he said.

“And this has been a common practice in International Health Regulations since 2005. So, the decision is the right of each country, just as it is currently not accepting foreigners from India, Pakistan, even yesterday from the UK.”
