The Ministry of Health and Social Protection again highlighted the advances in vaccination in Colombia, since so far more than 83% of the population have received at least one dose of the vaccine; however, not all have come to complete their initial scheme or to receive the reinforcement. For this reason, the entity will carry out a virtual survey to find out the reasons why Colombians do not go to immunization posts.

Yes ok over 70% of the population have received their full regimens, the fact that the coverage of the booster doses is not expected “increases the risk of outbreaks and peaks of the disease,” explained the Ministry of Health. In addition, he recalled that “the best protection against severe covid-19 or death is achieved by receiving the initial scheme and reinforcement.”

In this sense, the director of Medicines and Technologies in Health, Leonardo Arregoces, indicated that the survey aims to identify and analyze the reasons why some people do not accept or have doubts about the vaccine. With this, the Ministry will devise new strategies to increase coverage and reduce the risk of a new peak due to covid-19 with severe illnesses and deaths.

It is worth remembering in recent weeks, Colombia presented an increase in cases of covid-19 just after the national government announced the suspension of the use of masks in closed and open places. This on the condition that the territories had 70% of the population vaccinated and 30% with the booster dose. According to the director of Promotion and Prevention, Gerson Bermont Galavis, assured on June 17 that this would be the fifth peak of coronavirus.

The survey strategy

The survey is part of a project called Determinants of reluctance to the covid-19 vaccine in the Colombian population.

Arregocés explained that the plan has two stages: the first consisted of “a qualitative study in four municipalities of the country, interviewing people in charge of vaccination, and those who approached the vaccination points”; the second is precisely the realization of the measurement. In the end, it will be the consolidation of the results that will allow the implementation of new strategies.

The survey can be completed in the enlace (link) and that it will also be shared through all the social networks of the Ministry of Health”, Arregocés pointed out and invited citizens to state their reasons, filling out a form. “It will only take a few minutes, but it will help us, the country, to resolve those doubts about vaccination,” he added.

The official stressed that high vaccination rates will be able to prevent the appearance of new strains, avoid serious cases of the disease, deaths and new peaks of the pandemic.

This is how vaccination goes in Colombia
