Jakarta, InfoPublik – The Ministry of Health is again promoting basic immunization in the National Child Immunization Month (BIAN). The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a decrease in routine immunization coverage for both basic and advanced immunizations.
The Minister of Health (Menkes), Budi Gunadi Sadikin, during the BIAN press conference, Thursday (12/5/2022), gave an example that there are around 1.7 million babies who have not received basic immunization during the 2019 to 2021 period.
“So that with the decline in the number of COVID-19 cases, we will need to immediately direct our energy and concentration to promote the basic immunization,” said Minister of Health Budi.
He continued, by increasing basic immunization for the better coveragefor all children in Indonesia and will protect children from various existing diseases.
Meanwhile, Head of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) Immunization Task Force, Hartono Gunadi, welcomed the existence of BIAN. Immunization is a health service program that has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide and also in Indonesia.
“So there is an increase in cases of diseases that can be prevented by immunization. We are often afraid to immunize children because they are infected with COVID-19 at the time of immunization,” said Hartono.
However, he continued from the study that every case of a child infected with COVID-29 at the time of immunization was equal to 80 deaths that could have been prevented due to immunization.
“So immunization during the COVID-19 pandemic is very efficient in protecting our children from diseases that can be prevented by immunization,” said Hartono.
