Ministry of Health: Osteoporosis Can Be a Serious Threat for National Health Development

Fiastuti Witjaksono, a clinical nutrition specialist and Chairman of the Indonesian Osteoporosis Association, said that some risk factors for osteoporosis can actually be prevented.

Some of these risk factors include poor diet, lack of calcium and vitamin D, excessive consumption of foods and drinks such as salt, soda or coffee, and lack of physical activity.

“Eating well, enough calcium, enough vitamin D, exposure to sunlight, physical activity, avoiding cigarettes, alcohol, coffee, it must be done from a very young age, so that we can get strong bones and healthy bones.”

“So that at the ages of young adults or the age of menopause, there is no bone fragility which can result in or have an effect on fractures,” said Fiastuti.
