Ministry of Health Monitors 1 Suspected Smallpox Monkey, Isolated in Central Java

Jakarta

The Indonesian Ministry of Health confirmed that one resident in Central Java was in the category of suspected monkeypox. The spokesman for the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Mohammad Syahril, said that he would conduct an examination on the person concerned through a PCR lab test.

“Yes, it’s just a suspect and is currently being isolated for treatment,” said Syahril when contacted on Wednesday (3/8/2022).

“And to make sure monkeypox or not, a PCR lab examination will be carried out to confirm it. It could just be normal smallpox or other diseases, not monkeypox,” continued Syahril.

According to him, the suspected monkeypox patient is still referring to the ‘suspect’ or possibility so that the government has not been able to confirm the certainty of the status of the patient who is currently being treated by a private hospital in Central Java.

He is still waiting for further analysis information from the Central Java Health Office and the latest developments from the hospital. The discovery of a suspected monkeypox case does not mean that Indonesia has confirmed monkeypox cases so far.

“There have been no confirmed cases of monkeypox,” he said while emphasizing the public to always prioritize clean and healthy living behavior.
