Ministry of Health Ensures Case in Singkawang Not Monkeypox

Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health) ensure that residents in Singkawang Regency, West Kalimantan are not infected with monkeypox (Monkeypox), but infected Varicella aka chicken pox.

“Not monkeypox huh, but Varicella. The final diagnosis from the Sudarso Hospital doctor was Varicella,” said the Director General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Ministry of Health, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, adding to CNNIndonesia.comFriday (17/6).

Maxi then revealed the chronology report he had received. On June 9 last, the patient got a small watery rash on the left chest.

Then the next day, he said when he woke up, more and more small watery rashes appeared on the patient’s body.

Then, on June 11, the patient went to the Setapuk Kecil Pustu and was advised by the doctor to go to the North Singkawang I Health Center UPT if the small watery lumps became more and more frequent.

Then on June 13, the patient was then taken by his parents to be referred to a Skin Disease specialist at Vincent Hospital.

“From Vincent Hospital, the patient was given Acyclovir 5 x 400 mg, paracetamol for fever and 1 x 1 tab cetirizine and the patient was referred to Dr Soedarso Hospital Pontianak to get further treatment,” continued Maxi.

According to reports, he said the patient admitted that he had never contracted smallpox before and had never received the smallpox vaccine.

In addition, the patient was also noted to have no history of going out of town or having family or friends from out of town or even abroad.

“On June 17, 2022, the current condition of the rash has dried and the treating doctor was diagnosed with varicella, so there was no sampling because it was diagnosed with varicella,” he said.

Previously, the Singkawang Health Office, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan) found one case of a resident suspected of being infected with monkeypox (Monkeypox).

“The patient, a male, is currently being treated at the Yos Soedarso Regional Hospital, Pontianak,” said Head of the P2 Division of the Singkawang Health and Family Planning Agency, Mursalin, as quoted by Antara, Friday (17/6).
