koranindopos.com – Jakarta, Director of Immunization Management, Ministry of Health, Dr. Prima Yosephine, MKM, emphasized the importance of vaccination for primary school children (SD) during the School Child Immunization Month (BIAS). He explained that although cases of certain diseases may be seen rarely, vaccination is still important to protect children from dangerous diseases such as measles and rubella.
“Many people may be wondering why they are still getting vaccinated, there are no more cases,” explained Dr. Prima, announced from Antara on Friday, August 16 2024. He emphasized that the public’s understanding of the importance of vaccination must be increased, since vaccination works as a disease prevention.
During BIAS, the vaccines given are divided into two categories. First, the HPV vaccine is given specifically to students in grades 5 and 6 in primary school. Second, increased vaccination for measles, rubella and diphtheria targeting children in grades 1, 2 and 5 of primary school. This booster vaccine is required even if children have received the vaccine when they were under 2 years of age.
“So if a child does not follow BIAS, even if the vaccination was complete, he is no longer protected at that age and therefore must be given again,” said Dr. Excellent.
With the BIAS program, the Ministry of Health hopes that the public will be more aware of the importance of vaccination in maintaining the health of children, especially in protecting them from diseases that vaccines can prevent. (Oh)
