Ministry of Health and Population Launches Initiative for Early Detection of Anemia, Obesity, and Dwarfism in Egyptian Students

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the initiative for early detection of anemia, obesity and dwarfism aims to screen students in the primary stage, both Egyptians and non-Egyptians residing in Egypt, indicating that the initiative will continue to work until the end of the current school year in all governorates of the Republic.

Abdul Ghaffar added that the initiative’s services include conducting medical surveys for students and measuring weight, height, and hemoglobin levels in the blood, to detect malnutrition diseases, and developing the necessary mechanisms to improve students’ health, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education.

The Ministry of Health and Population revealed the causes of anemia in children, which include:

1- Deficiency in “iron, vitamin B12, vitamin B6”

2- Bleeding due to blood thinners or another reason

3- Degenerative anemia

4- Worms
