Ministry of Health and Population Implements DNA Testing for Blood Units to Ensure Safety and Security

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the service of conducting DNA testing for blood units will be provided to ensure the safety and security of blood units and their derivatives transported to patients.

He continued: Directions were given to accelerate the pace of mechanization of blood banks and to finalize their contracting procedures, to connect blood banks to a unified electronic system with the aim of creating a national database for donors, within the framework of the Egyptian state’s plan to implement digital transformation.

He pointed out that the necessity of separating and not mixing reagents and supplies for medical laboratories and tests, and those for the work of blood banks, was emphasized, in accordance with the guidelines developed by the World Health Organization.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nihad Mohamed Massad, Director General of National Blood Transfusion Services at the Ministry of Health and Population, said that blood donation campaigns are being conducted within the framework of the Ministry’s keenness to provide blood and its derivatives, to meet the needs of patients nationwide.
