The Ministry of Health and Population announced the ban on the circulation of 75 tons and 666 kilograms of various foods, and 2 million 560 thousand and 93 liters of juices and drinks whose natural properties have changed, and they were sent to central laboratories to determine their suitability for human consumption, as part of the Ministry’s efforts to ensure food safety.
This came during several campaigns, launched by the Central Food Control Administration in the Health Affairs Directorates, in all governorates of the Republic during the month of November 2023, as part of the proactive campaigns implemented by the Ministry of Health and Population, on all food establishments, in order to ensure the health and safety of citizens.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the campaigns went to 21,600 food establishments, and 12,228 samples of food were withdrawn, to be examined in the Ministry of Health’s laboratories, and to ensure their suitability for human consumption, in addition to issuing reports regarding violations of the required health requirements. He stressed that these campaigns come in implementation of the directives of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, to tighten control over food establishments, intensify monitoring campaigns, to ensure the safety of food provided to citizens, and take all legal measures regarding the violations that are monitored.
For his part, Dr. Amr Kandil, Assistant Minister of Health and Population for Preventive Medicine Affairs, confirmed the destruction of 14 tons and 517 kilograms of various foods, and 12,676 liters of expired juices and drinks, in addition to issuing 15,401 reports for food establishments, due to the lack of health requirements that must be met. In food handling places, violating food safety conditions, employing individuals who do not hold health certificates, in addition to stopping 3,216 establishments operated without a license.
He pointed out the issuance of 47,09 health certificates for workers in the food sector, intensifying oversight of hotels, restaurants, and various food establishments, and taking all necessary legal measures and procedures against violators, in order to ensure the health and safety of citizens.
The Ministry of Health and Population called on those working in the food sector to adhere to all health requirements, obtain health certificates stating that they are free from infectious diseases, pay attention to public and personal hygiene, and the need for all food establishments to adhere to health requirements.
The Ministry of Health and Population called on citizens not to buy products of unknown origin, and to verify the expiration date and safety of the product, in order to preserve public health, stressing the continuation of periodic control campaigns to ensure food safety.
