Ministry of Health admits there is one elderly patient with suspected monkeypox in Cilegon

There are already 17 suspected monkeypox in Indonesia.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Director General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, confirmed information regarding a suspected case of monkeypox in Cilegon, Banten. Maxi said, the symptoms experienced by the patient were rashes and cycles, especially on the body. Symptoms of the rash have appeared since August 5, starting with heat. “A sample has been taken and sent to the BKPK lab,” said Maxi.

Previously, the Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Dr. Mohammad Syahril, emphasized that so far no Indonesian people have been infected with the virus monkeypox. Syahril admitted that as of Wednesday (10/8/2022), there were 17 people suspected of having monkeypox.

“All 17 people are suspects, once the PCR results are negative, so the status becomes discarded,” said Syahril in Jakarta, Wednesday (10/8/2022).

However, Syahril stated that to anticipate the presence of this virus originating from South Africa, the government is looking for a vaccine as a way to prevent the spread of this virus. It is known, a person can only transmit monkeypox when he is symptomatic.

To detect it, there are currently 1,100 laboratories in Indonesia with 1,500 reagents that have been distributed. The government is also looking for a vaccine from monkeypox, although it is still very rare.
