The Ministry of Health incorporated the vaccine against the respiratory syncytial virus, the main cause of bronchiolitis, for pregnant people in the National Vaccination Calendar as of January 1, which was made official today after the publication of the resolution in the Official Gazette .
This measure implies that the vaccine will be free and mandatory for all those who are pregnant between week 32 and 36, which in addition to protecting the baby during the first six months of life “through the transplacental passage of antibodies,” indicates the resolution, which is numbered 4218.
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is the main cause of acute lower respiratory infections in childhood, particularly in infants under one year of age, being the main cause of increased hospitalizations, with eventual complications with critical care requirements, in addition to a high level of outpatient consultation in the winter season.

In Argentina, until week 42 (October 21) of this year, 198,889 cases of bronchiolitis were reported, with a cumulative incidence rate of 13,632.5 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, verifying an increase compared to 2018 and those of the pandemic years 2020 and 2021.
