The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu RI) summoned the Ambassador India for the Republic of Indonesia regarding the statement of the spokesman for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in India, Nupur Sharma. At the meeting, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the statement by the Indian politician.
Spokesman for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah, said that the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Manoj Kumar Bharti, was received directly by the Director General of Asia Pacific and Africa (Aspasaf) Abdul Kadir Jailani. The meeting was held on Monday (6/6) afternoon.
“Indeed, the Director General of Aspasaf received the Ambassador India this afternoon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding these comments,” said the spokesman for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah, to reporters on Monday (6/6/2022).
Faizasyah did not explain in more detail the contents of the meeting. Faizasyah then gave the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ stance on the statement by the Indian politician which had been conveyed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Twitter.
“Indonesia strongly condemns the statement degrading the Prophet Muhammad SAW by two Indian politicians. This message has been conveyed to the Indian Ambassador in Jakarta,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on its official Twitter account.
PM Modi’s Party Spokesperson Comments
The BJP is the ruling party in India which is also the party of the Prime Minister (PM). India Narendra Modi. As reported by the Times of India and India Today, Monday (6/6), these insulting comments made by Nupur Sharma, who is also the spokesman for the BJP, have sparked violent riots in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It was not explained further about the controversial comments made by Sharma.
In its statement, the BJP announced Sharma had been questioned by the party’s disciplinary commission and as a result he was suspended from the BJP. The BJP also emphasized that Sharma had expressed views that contradicted the party’s position on various matters, which clearly violated the party’s constitution.
“You have expressed views that contradict the party’s position on various matters, which is a clear violation of rule number 10(a) of the BJP constitution,” BJP Central Disciplinary Commission Secretary Om Pathak said in a letter to Sharma.
“I have been directed to inform you that while further investigation is ongoing, you are removed from the party and from your responsibilities/duties if any, immediately,” the letter said.
