Ministry of Foreign Affairs Clarified, DKI Provincial Government Withdraws Letter Requesting Donations to Foreign Ambassadors

Circulation of a letter from DKI Jakarta Provincial Government ask for donations to foreign ambassadors in the Capital City for handling COVID-19 is in the spotlight. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) said it had requested clarification from the DKI Provincial Government regarding the letter.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the official copied in the letter, has asked for clarification from the DKI Provincial Government yesterday,” said Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Teuku Faizasyah via a short message to detik.com, Friday (2/7/2021).

From the results of the clarification, Faizasyah ensured that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government withdrew the letter. “After the communication, the letter referred to above has been withdrawn by the DKI Regional Government,” explained Faizasyah.

However, Faizasyah did not explain in detail the reason for the withdrawal of the letter. “Please ask the local government the reason,” he explained.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has not provided information about the reason for the withdrawal. Until this news was published, the Head of the DKI Cooperation Bureau, Andhika Permata, had not responded to text messages and phone calls.

Letter of Request for Donation

The letter bearing the Jakarta Provincial Government logo was addressed to all embassies in Jakarta in English. The letter was signed by the Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government Cooperation Bureau, Andhika Permata on June 28, 2021.

In the letter, the DKI Provincial Government invited the ambassadors to contribute to filling the furniture at the Nagrak Cilincing Flats, North Jakarta. And take part in fulfilling the need for extension of the COVID-19 handling hospital in Jakarta.

Deputy Governor of DKI Opens Vote

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria stated that his party needed to check the veracity of the circulating letter. So far, he believes the invitation is intended not only for the embassy, ​​but also for all elements of society.

“It wasn’t to the ambassador, it was conveyed to all elements. Later, it will be checked with the Regional Secretary, exactly,” said Riza at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Jl Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, Thursday (1/7/2021).
