The Ministry of Finance will strengthen its communication team in connection with the planned membership of the Eurozone. A new department of 6 people will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of the communication strategy for the Eurozone.
They will work under the umbrella of the central coordination unit in the Ministry of Finance, and the numbers are provided at the expense of reducing the number of the National Revenue Agency.
This is clear from the changes in the regulations of the Ministry of Finance approved by the cabinet in the last working week. The government also approved amendments to the rules for the activities of the Public Procurement Agency, related to the latest changes in the Public Procurement Act.
The MoF points out that at the moment the implementation of the communication strategy is not ensured in terms of personnel with additional staff. At the same time, work on it will continue for 12 months before membership and 6 months after it.
With the new department, messages at the national level will be structured, planned and unified, and the materials – with a unified design and slogan, will ensure a better management of communication and potential risk, and will also create an opportunity for a timely and adequate response to possible crises or emergency situations in the process of Bulgaria’s accession to the Eurozone, the Ministry of Finance wrote in the reasons.
Apart from these 6 units, the Directorate “Public Relations and Protocol” of the Ministry of Finance has a number of 17 units, writes “Now”.
The implementation of the communication strategy was financially secured in April this year with the amount of BGN 10 million. The content of the strategy itself was updated in October, with three stages of implementation planned – preparatory, actual and actual. Against the background of the strengthening of the team related to the communication of activities, there is a risk that Bulgaria will not be admitted to membership on the date indicated by it – January 1, 2025. In this case, the new unit in the Ministry of Finance will continue to deal with crisis PR. Our country does not meet the inflation criterion, hoping that exceptions will be made after the war in Ukraine.
With changes in the regulations of the Agency for Public Procurement, the number will be increased by 30 units due to a cut in the staff of the “Customs” agency. The higher number is protected by the changes adopted in the Law on Public Procurement, which introduce mandatory external prior control of all orders over BGN 5 million.
