“Ministry of Equality to Hold Crisis Meeting on Recent Surge of Sexist Murders in Spain”

The Ministry of Equality will meet this Friday the crisis committee for the evaluation of the latest sexist murders confirmed by the Government Delegation against sexist violence, a scourge that before the end of the first month of the year has claimed the lives of six women and a minor.

The crisis committee meeting will take place at the Equality headquarters and the representatives of the autonomous communities will participate in it, according to sources from the department led by Irene Montero.

Six women and a minor murdered in 2023

A total of six women and one minor have been killed by their partners or ex-partners so far this year. The last two victims of this scourge have been a 45-year-old woman and her eight-year-old daughter, murdered today presumably in Valladolid by the woman’s partner. There were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.

In turn, a 38-year-old woman was allegedly murdered in Lleida by her partner on January 18. The victim had five minor children (three sons and two daughters), and there were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.

Another 46-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner in Malaga on January 8. The victim had two children of legal age and there were previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged murderer.

Similarly, a 24-year-old woman was murdered in Ciudad Real province on the same day. The victim had a minor daughter and there were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.

For her part, a 46-year-old woman was allegedly murdered at the hands of her ex-partner in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on January 8. The victim had three sons and one daughter who were minors, and there were previous complaints of gender violence against this individual.

Lastly, a 46-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her partner in the province of Cádiz on January 8. The victim had an adult son and an underage daughter. There were no complaints of gender violence against the alleged murderer.
