Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) hopes that the search for non-conventional oil and gas reserves (MNK) in the Rokan Block will be successful. Thus, the heyday of the oil and gas industry in Indonesia will be repeated.
The Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Tutuka Ariadji, said that the joining of an oil and gas company from the United States, namely EOG Resources, in the search for MNK potential in the Rokan Block is expected to produce results. So that it can have an impact on the national economy.
“Oh yeah (there could be another oil boom), and that’s a lot of multipliers because a lot of industry will be involved,” said Tutuka during an interview with CNBC Indonesia, quoted Friday (14/7/2023).
According to Tutuka, in addition to different drilling techniques compared to conventional oil and gas, MNK also requires the availability of water and sand in its production process.
He also saw that with the relatively large demand for sand, sand could become a commodity with potential for regional income in the area of operation.
“If this sand is successful, it will become a commodity. If it is good enough, it will continue to be used by the company. Then the rig can also develop. We have high hopes that MNK will be happy to have a professional partner,” he said.
ESDM Minister Arifin Tasrif previously explained that currently the government is indeed focusing on developing the MNK block. One of them is what Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) will do in the Rokan Block this year.
According to Arifin, the success of the United States in developing non-conventional oil and gas has made them currently the leading oil and gas producer. Therefore, he really hopes that EOG’s inclusion in the MNK project in the Rokan Block can produce results.
“This was first developed in Texas which made America a net oil and gas exporter. We are currently trying to explore this. Like shale oil, this is being developed again in the Rokan Block area. We have obtained EOG, which is a pioneer and it still has (quite large) potential.” ” Arifin said at the launch of Arcandra Tahar’s book Public Interest in the Energy Sector, Wednesday night (5/7/2023).
Arifin said that to develop this type of oil and gas, EOG asked for a more attractive fiscal term improvement. But before that, they will first confirm MNK’s oil and gas reserves in the Rokan Block.
“The technique is specific inside and ask for a more interesting term. This they make sure how much is in the belly of our earth,” he said.
