Nizam asked ITB to protect students from debt bondage.
“The Ministry of Education and Culture reminds us that PTN’s mission is to provide quality and inclusive higher education. No child should be unable to continue their studies for economic reasons. We ask that campuses find solutions to funding schemes that are good, safe, and do not add to students’ economic problems, as well as to protect students from debt bondage,” said Nizam to journalists, Sunday (28/1/2024).
Nizam explained that the Ministry of Education and Culture has provided support in the form of Smart Indonesia Cards (KIP) for College, the number and targets of which increase every year. According to him, the 2023 KIP Tuition budget of IDR 11.7 trillion was given to 893,005 students.
“Meanwhile for 2024, IDR 13.1 trillion will be given to 964,946 students. Support through KIP Kuliah certainly cannot cover everything,” said Nizam.
