Ministry of Defense: He ruled the strike of the antiquities guards of Crete illegal – Their demands – 2024-08-10 20:58:56

The Ministry of Culture issued an announcement that defines the strike of the antiquities guards of Crete as illegal.

As reported by cretanews, the antiquities guards of Crete accuse the Ministry of Culture of devaluing the experience of the antiquities guards, protesting about the ODAP contractors who have been hired as salesmen and are placed in guarding and visitor control posts, as well as at the entrance of “personal escort” from private companies companies, for out-of-hours guided tours of museums and archaeological sites.

According to the antiquities guardians of Crete, the management of the country’s cultural stock must remain public.

Thus, they announced a 24-hour strike on Sunday, as well as a protest outside the archaeological site of Knossos.

The announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

“The Ministry of Culture announces that with the no. 499/2024 decision of the Single-Member Court of First Instance of Heraklion, the 24-hour strike mobilization announced by the Pan-Cretan Union of Graduate Archaeologists for Sunday, August 11, 2024 in the Museums and archaeological sites of the Region of Crete was deemed illegal.

Following this, by law, the Museums and archaeological sites of the Region of Crete must be in full operation.”
