From “Volver a los 17” by Violeta Parra to “Alone with my solitude” by Marisela served as inspiration for the users of the Chillán Penitentiary Compliance Center, who participated in the “Releasing Talents” program of the Schools of Rock and Popular Music of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage in agreement with the Chilean Gendarmerie.
“I felt very good in this workshop, because I sang in the street and now I am going to do things well. All these achievements, all these marvels, are for me, my husband and my children”, says Isolina Arce, a user of the Chillán CCP. “With my companions we have a lot of talent in singing, in dancing, and with this activity it is like they took us out on the street and I am very happy, for that I thank the Lord,” adds his companion, Miriam González.
Program
“Releasing Talents” is a formative work aimed at supporting the processes of improving the living conditions of people deprived of their liberty, favoring the capacities of social reintegration of the prison population of our country through spaces of musical artistic creation and expression. The workshops lasted three months and were led by musicians Valentina Peralta and Juan Pablo Garrido “Pracnes”, as psychosocial educators.
“It was an experience of great reciprocity of learning because we also left with many lessons from here, with great affection, where the little girls put themselves at the service of our proposal and that is why we were able to have a beautiful and exciting result”, emphasizes Valentina Peralta.
“It was a significant experience for us. We have been friends with Valentina for years and now working together and learning about this reality was super important and we hope it will be the kickoff of a long-term experience”, adds Pracnes.
The regional director(s) of the Gendarmerie, Colonel Rafael Cadenas, explains that “the processes of social reintegration in the Chilean Gendarmerie have a multidimensional condition. Cultural artistic activities are very important as they are in this agreement with the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.
As for the Ñuble Culture, Arts and Heritage Seremi, Scarlet Hidalgo, this activity “is a tremendous job that the team has done, a tremendous achievement of the objectives of Releasing Talent and also a contribution to women that today they are here for different reasons and that today they have more tools to continue advancing in life and visualize the future with more hope”
