Ministry of Culture makes the first delivery of books and furniture to the Municipal Library of Chaclacayo

The Ministry of Culture, through the Directorate of Books and Reading, made the first delivery of 229 books and furniture to the Municipal Library of Chaclacayo, a member of the National Library System, as part of the second delivery of books. This will make it possible to optimize the use of its services and its bibliographic resources, as part of the public policy of social inclusion, construction of citizenship and human development.

The book handover ceremony was attended by Leonardo Dolores, director of the Directorate for Books and Reading; and Santiago Alfaro, general director of the General Directorate of Cultural Industries and Arts, representing the Ministry of Culture; Manuel Campos, mayor of the Municipality of Chaclacayo; Ezio Neyra, institutional head of the National Library of Peru (BNP) and Alex Alejandro, director of the Directorate for the Development of Library Policies of the BNP.

“Libraries are a fundamental space for citizens, especially in these times, because they give us access to knowledge, information and various stories that allow us to get closer. They help us to resist and to live. With the delivery of books to the Library of the Municipality of Chaclacayo, a space is created to celebrate and recognize the joint efforts between the local government, the National Library of Peru and the Ministry of Culture “, expressed Leonardo Dolores, director of the Directorate of Books and Reading.

The meeting of the three entities had an emotional moment, since – in this way – it was possible to generate a space of connection between citizens and books, in favor of the democratization of access to books and reading.

“We are very happy for this delivery of books to the Library of the Municipality of Chaclacayo, since it represents a space to create community and positively influence people. The Ministry of Culture, together with the National Library System, will continue to support this institution to contribute to the training of readers. It is a sum of many wills with the purpose of generating more opportunities for citizens “, said Santiago Alfaro, general director of the General Directorate of Cultural Industries and Arts.

These actions were carried out within the framework of the National Culture Policy and emergency decrees 058-2020 and 104-2020, which allowed for a historic purchase of books to be carried out, with the aim of mitigating the state of emergency in the Culture sector and promote adequate conditions to exercise the right to read at the national level.

Soon, the Ministry of Culture will complete the first distribution stage, with an approximate delivery of 51,712 books and 368 furniture, which is equivalent to 98% of the material in the reading spaces that make up the National Network of Peru Lee Reading Spaces, such as the community libraries and establishments belonging to INPE and INABIF.

In this way, the Ministry of Culture seeks to guarantee the right to read through the strengthening of the book and reading ecosystem.
