The Ministry of Culture, through the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), has allocated more than 12.8 million euros to aid for film exhibition and the promotion of cultural diversity, according to the resolution published this Friday.
Of this budget, 12.5 million have been allocated to 217 companies and 310,796 euros to 17 non-profit entities. The 234 requests that have been resolved favorably correspond to 458 film exhibition halls spread throughout the territory, the ministry states in a statement.
By autonomous community, the aid is distributed among 77 movie theaters in Andalusia, 72 in Catalonia, 55 in the Valencian Community, 51 in the Community of Madrid, 31 in the Basque Country, 29 in Castilla y León, 28 in Galicia, 21 in Castilla-La Mancha, 20 of Aragon.
Another 17 belong to the Region of Murcia, 13 to the Balearic Islands, 10 to the Foral Community of Navarra, 9 to the Canary Islands, 9 to Extremadura, 7 to the Principality of Asturias, 5 to Cantabria and 4 to La Rioja.
The objectives of these subsidies are, on the one hand, to promote the activity of film exhibition halls, considered “a fundamental vehicle for access to culture” that play “a decisive role in the activity of the film sector.”
And, on the other hand, facilitate access to a cinematographic culture that is “as diverse as possible”, enabling the presence of productions of different nationalities and languages in the theater programming.
The aid was approved by the Council of Ministers on October 3.
