Ministry intervenes: dozens of false foreign QR codes blocked

The Ministry of Health caught up last night by blocking rogue corona tickets. Yesterday 23 QR codes were blocked and that number has now risen to 96.

It was already known that from today the ministry has more legal options to block codes. This concerns fraudulent foreign codes, which are widely shared via apps such as Telegram.

It seems that many codes have been blocked that were offered in an Android app. In that app, 65 were shared yesterday.

‘Bad and undesirable’

The Public Prosecution Service points out to the NOS that fraud with vaccination certificates is punishable. This involves forgery of documents, which carries a fine or imprisonment.

“If people pretend to be vaccinated against the coronavirus when they are not, they can encourage the spread of the virus. That is bad and undesirable,” says a spokesperson.

The QR code will be requested in more places from today, as part of a number of sharpening in the policy. The code, which indicates whether someone has been vaccinated, cured or tested negative, must not only be displayed in the catering industry, but now also in museums, swimming pools and gyms.
