A first vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 should be available by the beginning of January at the latest. Voluntary helpers are being sought for work in the country’s vaccination centers.
The state of Baden-Württemberg has high hopes for an effective vaccination against Corona. “The planned vaccination of millions of people from Baden-Württemberg is a Herculean task that needs all hands to help. We are therefore very pleased that so many people have already indicated that they are ready to help, ”said Health Minister Manne Lucha on Monday (December 14) in Stuttgart. The country is looking for volunteers for this major task.
High manpower requirements
A first vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 should be available by the beginning of January at the latest. “We are currently preparing at full speed to start voluntary vaccination as soon as the first vaccine is available. That also means that we have to recruit a lot of staff, ”the health minister continued.
The country’s vaccination strategy provides for a total of 59 vaccination centers as well as supporting mobile vaccination teams so that a large number of people can be vaccinated quickly.
From December 15, nine central vaccination centers in the state (ZIZ) will be set up in the university cities of Ulm, Tübingen, Heidelberg and Freiburg as well as in Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Offenburg and Rot am See. From January 15, 2021, another 50 district vaccination centers (KIZ) will follow. In addition, mobile vaccination teams (MIT) will be set up, which initially give residents of old people’s and nursing homes access to the vaccine.
The country is looking for volunteers who will receive payment to work in the vaccination centers.
Who can register as a volunteer?
- Medical staff: Nursing staff, medical-technical assistants, pharmacists / pharmaceutical-technical assistants, paramedics, emergency paramedics, medical students from the 7th semester or in the practical year.
- Persons for administrative tasks, accompaniment to the vaccination area, support of the registration and documentation processes.

The vaccination operation should usually be carried out from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in two shifts, seven days a week. The operating times of the mobile teams are regulated as required. The operator of the respective vaccination center is responsible for the more detailed contractual arrangements. If necessary, those responsible will contact registered volunteers to discuss how to proceed. They can decide for themselves at which location and to what extent they want to be used. Of course, you can also withdraw your consent.
