Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Dozens of Advanced Indonesia Cabinet ministers are reportedly ready to resign from the Jokowi-Maaruf Amin government. Some of the names being rumored include Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi.

This statement was mentioned by senior economist Faisal Basri some time ago. He said the ministers were waiting for the right moment to resign.

“Morally, I heard that Mrs. Sri Mulyani is most ready to step down,” said Faisal at the Political Economic Outlook event held by PROGRESIF, as quoted on Tuesday (16/1/2024).

The process of ministerial resignations also occurred during President Soeharto’s administration. At that time, Faisal said that 12 other ministers had resigned.

He said that the public could persuade the minister who was ready to resign to immediately execute his plan. Their reasons are also not wrong because President Jokowi has sided with only one candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

“Come on, let’s persuade Mrs. Sri Mulyani, Mr. Basuki and several other ministers to resign. That will have a powerful effect,” said Faisal.

Some of the ministers who want to resign are technocrats. He said they have strong ethical and moral values.

“Well, technocrats have unwritten ethical standards, so if they are asked by their superiors to break the rules, they say sorry, I don’t want to, I can’t, if you want to continue or if you want to continue, please let me step down,” he said.

“Because non-economists are also technical economists of all kinds. Yes, there are value standards, scientific standards, in my opinion those scientific standards, those standards have been exceeded, so they have exceeded the limit,” said Faisal.

The disturbing standard is the amount of interference in their duties and functions for political interests. Especially those related to the use of the state budget.

“So Mr. Jokowi wants to tour Indonesia more intensely in 2024, share something like that, ‘wow, the budget isn’t in the APBN yet, sir’, ‘but the money is there?’ “I’ll try, sir,” “implement it”. That’s if a crime is committed because every penny of the APBN has to be approved, it can’t be juggled like that, now these friends are starting to get worried,” said Faisal, imitating his conversation with someone he called a minister other than Sri Mulyani and Basuki.

Government Denies Issue of Resignation

Faisal said there were around 15 ministers who had the potential to resign. Apart from Sri Mulyani and Retno, there is the name of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono.

Next are five people, namely PDI Perjuangan and Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa. Two PKB ministers and a Nasdemi minister, namely the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar, are also on the list.

Other names are Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasri and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.

Not long after the issue emerged, several ministers immediately denied it. Sri Mulyani didn’t say much, she just said she was still working.

“Cook? This is still work,” said Sri Mulyani at the Palace.

In a press conference held on Friday (19/1/2024), Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi also gave the same answer. He even admitted that he had contacted all the names who were rumored to be ready to resign from the cabinet.

One of those contacted was Retno, who according to Budi was preparing to debate at the UN Security Council regarding the Gaza issue.

“Including I have communicated with Ms. Retno, Minister of Foreign Affairs, for example, who has been rumored to want to resign. She is currently preparing herself for a debate at the UN Security Council regarding Gaza in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mahfud admitted that he did not know about this issue. “I don’t know. I never talked to Mrs. Sri Mulyani like that,” he said.
