The Ministers of Public Works and EducationDeligne Ascención and Ángel Hernández, respectively, led a meeting with the purpose of reactivating the Presidential Commission of Road safety and take measures that considerably reduce the occurrence of accidents and increase traffic quality on the country’s public roads.
According to a press release, at the end of the meeting, Onéximo González, advisor to the Minister of Public Works and who served as spokesperson to publicize the details of the issues discussed, cited as the most important the decision to reactivate the Presidential Commission of Road safetycreated by Decree number 263-16, presided over by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications.
However, he expressed that several of the institutions that make up the commission have each been working unilaterally, and that what is sought, starting from this meeting, is that all work unified in a strategic plan evaluable in two years.
“All the institutions were working in isolation, each one doing their job,” he said.
Lack of strategic plan
In a preliminary diagnosis presented by González, of the problems that affect the road safety throughout the national territory, the definition of a strategic plan to give continuity to the situation of the transit vehicle, sponsor the strengthening of the General Directorate of Security of the Transit and Land Transportation (Digesett), increase the training actions developed by the Ministry of Educationmaintain continuity of the maintenance program and supervision of the conditions of the country’s roads and avenues, strengthen the educational campaign of the National Institute of Transit and Transportation (Intrant), among others.
He announced that for these purposes, Minister Deligne Ascención, as leader of the commission, proposed the convening of an upcoming meeting in which the members of the commission and the sectors directly and indirectly linked to the transit of cargo and passengers, to deepen the knowledge of the problem and be able to take appropriate measures.
The first reactivation meeting of this organization Road safetyconvened at the request of Ascención, was held at the headquarters of the MOPCand lasted two hours, in which representatives of all the institutions that have to do with the topic participated.

Onéximo González reported that among what was agreed at the meeting, a technical commission was also created in which all the institutions that are part of it will participate.
