Lindner did not take part in the boycott
Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) did not leave the hall during his colleagues’ action. However, informed circles reported that he had “resolutely contradicted” the Russian statements. Lindner had previously said: “We will not offer Russia a platform to spread propaganda and lies. Such statements by Russian representatives must be countered.”
A number of countries had called for Russia to be excluded from G20 meetings. Indonesia, which currently holds the G20 presidency, refused, citing impartiality as the reason.
Lindner tested positive for Corona after G20 meeting
Actually, Lindner would have had other appointments in the US capital on Thursday. However, the Federal Minister of Finance tested positive for the corona virus on Wednesday evening (local time), after the meeting of the G20 group and subsequent consultations with the G7 group of leading industrialized nations. The FDP chairman confirmed the infection on Twitter. “Thanks to three vaccinations, only mild cold symptoms that subside again,” he wrote.
Lindner took part in numerous events at the spring conference of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday. Employees of the Federal Ministry of Finance said that Lindner had regularly tested negative before and during the IMF conference, but was now positive in a quick test.
