Ministers in Bucharest’s nine nations urge strengthening NATO’s presence on the eastern flank

A joint statement by the defense ministers of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia states that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has dramatically changed the security situation in the region. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen NATO’s military presence from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea.

The leaders of Bucharest’s nine countries will gather in the Romanian capital on Friday. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will also attend the summit.
