Wednesday, August 16, marked a milestone in the administration of President Gabriel Boric Font, with a series of changes in his government team. In an effort to readjust and strengthen his team, adjustments were made in the ministries of Social Development and Family, Education, Mining, National Assets and Cultures, Arts and Heritage. Here are the reviews of the new ministers joining the cabinet:
Ministry of Social Development and Family – Javiera Toro Cáceres: Javiera Toro Cáceres is a lawyer from the University of Chile and has a master’s degree in law with a mention in public law from the same institution. To date, she served as Minister of National Assets. She stood out as the first president of the Comunes Party from January 2019 to July 2020. Her experience in the political arena and her commitment to social justice make her a key figure in the Ministry of Social Development and Family.
Ministry of Education – Nicolás Cataldo Astorga: Nicolás Cataldo Astorga, professor of History and Social Sciences at the University of Valparaíso, brings with him a career in education. With a background in the secondary and university student leadership, in addition to being a member of the Communist Party (PC), he has shown a deep interest in the design of public policies and legislative processing. During the Gabriel Boric Font administration, he has held key roles as Undersecretary of Education and Regional and Administrative Development.
Ministry of Mining – Aurora Williams Baussa: Aurora Williams Baussa, a business engineer from the Universidad Católica del Norte with postgraduate studies specializing in business administration, brings more than 30 years of experience in senior executive positions in various companies in northern Chile. With strong ties to the Radical Party (PR), she held the position of Minister of Mining during the second government of President Michelle Bachelet in 2014. Her experience in the mining industry and her commitment to sustainable development position her as a leader in the Ministry of Mining.
Ministry of National Assets – Marcela Sandoval Osorio: Marcela Sandoval Osorio, a journalist from the University of Santiago de Chile and a Master’s Degree in Spanish-American Literature from the same institution, provides an integral vision in her new role. With a career in different research and communication roles in institutions such as the National Consumer Service (Sernac) and the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, and a militancy in the Democratic Revolution (DR), his leadership in the Ministry of National Assets reflects a commitment to transparency and public welfare.
Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage – Carolina Arredondo Marzán: Carolina Arredondo Marzán, a theater and television actress with a career of more than 20 years in the Performing Arts and the Film and Television industry, brings a creative and cultural perspective to the cabinet. With experience in cultural management and active participation in unions and councils related to the arts, her role in the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage reinforces the government’s commitment to fostering and promoting culture.
