Ministerial Decree ready: garden centers, bookshops, notar …

The Ministerial Decree providing the legal basis for the ‘stricter lockdown’ has been published in the Official Gazette. The decision includes the list of shops that may remain open.

The list was already released by Minister Clarinval on Saturday, and has now been made official with the publication in the Official Gazette. There are no new things in it. In the coming weeks you will still be able to visit:

  • the food shops, including night shops;
  • the shops for care and hygiene products;
  • the pet food stores;
  • the pharmacies;
  • the newsagents and book shops;
  • the filling stations and the suppliers of fuels;
  • the telecom shops, with the exception of shops that only sell accessories;
  • the shops for medical devices;
  • the do-it-yourself shops;
  • the garden centers and tree nurseries;
  • the flower and plant shops;
  • wholesalers intended for professionals, but only for the benefit of the latter;
  • the specialized retail outlets that sell clothing fabrics;
  • the specialized retail outlets selling knitting yarn, needlework and haberdashery;
  • the shops for stationery and stationery.

The furniture stores, fearing unfair competition from the garden centers, should not remain open. Garden centers may only sell their ‘essential’ offerings, so no barbecues or (garden) furniture. The same goes for supermarkets: they are not allowed to sell toys, televisions or clothing. That offer must be ‘protected’.

In principle, companies do not close. Contact professions must stop. This concerns:

  • the beauty salons;
  • the non-medical pedicure business;
  • the nail salons;
  • the massage salons;
  • the hairdressers and barbers;
  • the tattoo and piercing salons.

It was already clear that childcare will remain open, as will the schools (which do have an extended autumn break until November 15). Banks, civil-law notaries and cleaning services also continue to work.
