Cut earlier this week dozens of French actors and singers they already have part of their hair, in support of activists in Iran. Swedish MEP Al-Sahani did the same at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
moral police
This way of demonstrating stems from street protests in Iran, where many women have been demonstratively cutting their hair in recent weeks. They are protesting against the heavy-handed moral police in their country. The immediate cause of these protests is the death of the young Mahsa Amini. She died last month after being arrested in Iran for wearing the veil ‘incorrectly’ – she was visible. She was arrested by the morality police and is said to have been mistreated afterwards, according to witnesses.
The Iranian police are repressing the demonstrations that have gripped the country ever since. Dozens of people have been killed during the protests in recent weeks.
